What is the purpose of collecting personal data?
StartHub is a startup hub located at the Isku Center in Mukkula, Lahti. It is a joint initiative by the City of Lahti, LAB University of Applied Sciences, and Isku to promote growth entrepreneurship.
StartHub serves both existing startup companies and students considering founding a company. It offers approximately 500 square meters of premises that can be used free of charge during the early stages of startup entrepreneurship. Within the StartHub space, companies can easily network and find new joint business opportunities.
Personal data is collected in connection with StartHub’s activities and LAB University of Applied Sciences’ cooperation with companies for the following purposes:
- maintenance of customer data
- communication, marketing, and information dissemination
- events and competitions
- business cooperation
- preparing offers and financial administration
- partnerships and networks
- collection and processing of feedback
What data do we collect?
We collect personal data as follows:
- contact details, phone numbers, email addresses, and profession-related information
- postal and billing addresses in customer or stakeholder relationships
- information on services provided in customer or stakeholder relationships
- video and photography related to events and occasions
On what basis do we collect personal data?
The legal basis for collecting personal data is primarily the data subject’s consent or a contractual relationship. With regard to StartHub’s customers and cooperation partners, the legal basis may also be the data controller’s legitimate interest.

To whom is the data disclosed?
Personal data is transferred to the participant data management service Lyyti for event registrations, and to Webropol for survey and feedback management.
Personal data is transferred to LAB University of Applied Sciences Ltd stakeholders to the extent required for jointly implemented activities.
Personal data related to StartHub activities is collected into the HubSpot database for customer relationship management. LAB University of Applied Sciences’ service providers related to communication and marketing in business cooperation, and their administration, are described in LAB’s communication and marketing privacy notice.
Who has access to the data?
StartHub staff have access to personal data in the registers, as well as LAB University of Applied Sciences staff involved in business cooperation, to the extent required by their job duties.
Where is the data transferred?
As a rule, data is not transferred outside the European Union or the European Economic Area.
Some of the servers of Google and HubSpot Inc. are located outside the EU.
Secure storage of collected data
We do not store manual materials. Access to digital materials is restricted to personal authentication to the network.
How long is the data stored?
Data related to StartHub’s activities is stored for as long as necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, or as long as required by law and regulations. Outdated and unnecessary data is deleted in an appropriate manner. Personal data is stored only for as long as necessary to fulfill the processing purposes defined in this privacy notice.
Automated decision-making
No automated decision-making is carried out in the processing of personal data.
Use of cookies
Cookies are used in browser-based information systems for processing personal data. A cookie is a small text file stored by the browser on the user’s device. Cookies are used to provide services, facilitate login, and enable statistical analysis of service usage. Users may disable cookies in their browser settings, but this may prevent proper system functionality.
Cookies are used to identify visitors’ location data and browsing behavior on the website using third-party analytics services. The cookies used are a feature of the website. Cookie data is not used for processing personal data.
Your rights
The data subject has the right to withdraw their consent at any time when the processing of personal data is based on consent.
The data subject has the right to lodge a complaint with the Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman if they believe that the processing of their personal data violates applicable data protection legislation.
